In Mike Dillards Book, “Building on a Budget”, I learned that if you want to build a successful network marketing business with real residual income for the longterm, there are activities that you should not do.

Here are two marketing tips on activities that you should avoid doing if you want to grow your network marketing business.

Many network marketers are looking online these days to grow their business.  You can’t look at your social media pages without a post showing up with people promoting their business and telling you about the products and the sale that is going on.

You can also seek to grow your business offline.   After all, you have heard the expression this is a “belly to belly” business.   So, some networkers still look to older methods that people use traditionally to market their brick and mortar business.

But, before jumping and spending money, make sure that you do your research and find out if the methods will actually work.

Here are two methods that you should probably not spend your money on.

Direct Mail
Direct mail is very expensive.   You have to first design a card, pay for printing and postage.  Then you have to purchase a list of people who are supposedly interested in network marketing.

Then you have to hope that one of the prospects who receives your cards, picks up the phone and calls you.  They are interested in what you are selling.

If you look at the statistics,  direct mail may work for other small businesses advertising, but it does not work for network marketing.  It is just too expensive and not duplicatable.  The real goal in a network marketing business is to have a downline of individuals using the products and building a business.

Cards on Cars
Another marketing tip is to avoid the cards on cars method.  This method is similar in cost to direct mail advertising but you don’t need to purchase a mailing list.  But, printing a business card is cheaper than designing and printing a postcard.

Putting cards on people cards may get you in trouble with the local authorities.  If you put the cards where “No Soliciting” ordinances are in effect, then you could possibly get in trouble with the law.

This is not an activity that you want to recommend.  Not only is it time consuming, it is not duplicatable.  When building your network marketing business, you always want to focus on activities where you are encouraging the purchase of your products or for people to join your business.
