When seeking to build a network marketing business, it is important to develop qualities that will draw people to you. As your goal is to gain customers and from some of those customers, develop some leaders who want to build a business.
In order to be successful in selling your product and your opportunity, you have to actually have a reason for doing what you do.
In reading the book, “Contagious Selling” by David A. Rich, he explains the following qualities necessary to be effective in sales.
HAVE REAL CONVICTION
You have to believe strongly in what you are doing. If you are only doing something for a paycheck, then you won’t bring any passion to what you do.
Love what you do, if you don’t, your customers will sense it in your eyes and they won’t buy from you. You will eventually fail in sales, because you will always be only looking for your next sale.
Purpose is different from reason. In the book, “Contagious Selling” by David A. Rich, there is a line, “If I could do anything in the world and make money doing it, it would be__________.” If you fill in the blank with what you are currently doing, then you have a purpose.
If you don’t have a purpose and are not happy, then you need to find something else to do. If you decide to do network marketing, then you have to believe in it completely. Once you do, you will have found your purpose. You will see the results that you are looking for. They will just come naturally.
If you want to be a real leader and attract people to your organization, then you need to develop humility. Humility does not mean that you have low self esteem. It means that you are aware of your positives as well as your weaknesses.
You always want to seek to be a servant to those you are helping. Yes, you do want to make a sale. But, the product that you are selling will improve the life of your customer. Show them what your product can do for them and then just be quiet. They will come to the decision on their own.
I DON’T KNOW
Always be willing to tell the customer the truth about your abilities. If they ask you something and you don’t know the answer, then tell them, “I don’t know.” Don’t ever lie about something or imply that you have certain abilities when you don’t. Dishonesty will always come out. It usually doesn’t come out in the best way.
It may happen that people become upset with you when you can’t solve their problem immediately. But, you have to tell them the truth and say, “I don’t know.” But, I am going to find someone with an answer to your question.
YOU MAY BE RIGHT
This quality is similar to humility. You don’t want to say this if it is not true. Only use when it could actually be the case.
If you are trying to win a customer over, these four words can help to lessen a disagreement. If a customer is actually right, then making this statement will help to build bridges. If there is any tension in the relationship, then this statement will help to soften that.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
This question shows that you are humble. You are asking for the other person’s opinion. You are inviting their input into the dialogue. The conversation is not all about what you want to sell. It is about making the other person’s life better.
If the product you are selling will not improve the customers life, then you need to find something else to do. So, after explaining the product, ask them, “What do you think?” If they provide feedback, that will improve the situation, then listen to them and use their suggestions.
But, ask for their opinion. It will usually improve the conversation and ultimately the dialogue.
