You have decided to build an online presence to grow your network marketing business.
When you start to build an online presence, you will after time see that others will take notice of the online work that you are doing.
When you are successful, you will eventually say something that might offend someone.
It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.
In the book by Michael Hyatt, “Get Noticed in a Noisy World”. The author states several things that you can do to monitor your online presence. With anything, it’s always better to come from the perspective or prevention rather than correction.
If you can prevent certain things from happening to begin with, then you can minimize any potential damage in the long run.
- Build an online presence.
This means provide value in the specific area that you are focusing on. For me, I am seeking to educate network marketers on how to grow their business online.
I am doing this by posting on my blog, posting on Twitter® and on FB®.If you already have an online presence, then if something negative happens or something is said about you, the followers can know that this is not true based upon the fact that you have provided value in the past.
- Monitor the Conversation
When you have an online presence, you want to monitor what people are saying about you.If you are a person of influence, people will have an opinion about you, either positive or negative.Now there will be some things stated about you online that are completely false. You can respond to the contrary but you can’t refute everything.It’s just a part of being a public figure.If you want to find out what is being said about you, set up a Google Alert’s page. This is a free service.
You will know within a short period of time if anything negative is being said about you. You can also monitor your Twitter feed by using HootSuite’s search function. This is a platform that offers a paid and free version to monitor your online presence.
- Respond Quickly to Criticism
My husband owns a small business. The field is very competitive. So, often customers who are not upstanding people will go online and bad mouth us.
This usually happens when we turn them over to a collection agency because they didn’t pay their bill.I guess they assume because we are a small business then we don’t have the resources at our disposal to get them to pay their bill.
In the past, former customers have gone on social media to intentionally lie about us and defame our business name.
We have responded to their comments by stating the truth. We trust that a rational person who reads these reviews will see that the person who wrote them is an angry individual and trying to get something for nothing.
In my industry of network marketing, I can look for negative comments about the industry or specific company that people write online and counter them on my website.
- Admit Your Mistakes
No one’s perfect and we all make mistakes. If you have made a mistake, be sure to admit to it up front.
Don’t deny your mistakes. Whenever you have said or done something wrong. Apologize and move on. One of the marks of a great leader is that they are willing to admit their mistakes
With any business that has an online presence, there will be people that state things that are untrue.
You can always counter that by stating the truth. You can’t control everything, but when the need arises, you can minimize any potential damage by being vigilant.
